About the Institute
The Hetao Institute of Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences (Shenzhen) (referred to as "HIMIS") is a Category II public institution established by the Shenzhen Municipal Government. Its mission is to build an important innovation hub and talent cultivation base for mathematics and deep interdisciplinary research in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, providing solid support and talent assurance for the development of fundamental disciplines and key technological breakthroughs in the region and the nation. HIMIS focuses on fundamental mathematics, applied mathematics, and cutting-edge interdisciplinary research directions such as "Mathematics + Artificial Intelligence", and is committed to building a world-class research platform for mathematics and interdisciplinary studies.
HIMIS is strategically located in the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone, fully leveraging its unique geographical advantages, policy benefits, and resource aggregation effects. It deeply connects the strengths of Shenzhen and Hong Kong in science and technology, education, and industry, promoting the organic integration of basic research, frontier exploration, and industrial needs. HIMIS will focus on strategic emerging industries such as artificial intelligence, embodied intelligent robotics, and low-altitude economy, continuously strengthening the fundamental role of mathematics in supporting original and disruptive technological breakthroughs, providing key theoretical support and high-level talent assurance for Shenzhen and the national science and technology innovation system. HIMIS will adopt the research paradigm of "25% Fundamental Mathematics, 50% Applied Mathematics, 25% Commercialization", promoting the deep integration of mathematical research and industrial applications. It will attract top global scholars and innovation teams, building a high-level research platform that integrates basic research, talent recruitment, talent cultivation, and commercialization.
