On the morning of 9 September 2025, the inauguration ceremony for the Hetao Institute of Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Studies (Shenzhen) and the official opening of its premises were successfully held at the Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Science and Technology Park in Hetao, Shenzhen. Attendees included Mr Tan Weizhong, Deputy Secretary of the Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee and Mayor; Academician Shing-Tung Yau, founder of the Hetao Mathematics Institute and renowned mathematician; Mr Zhao Jinsong, Director of the Guangdong Provincial Foundation for Basic and Applied Basic Research; Mr Huang Wei, Vice Chairman of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Secretary of the Futian District Party Committee, and Party Group Secretary of the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone Development Office; and Mr Lu Wenpeng, Secretary-General of the Shenzhen Municipal Government.

At the event, the Hetao School of Mathematics signed strategic cooperation agreements with institutions including The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Guangdong) Quantum Science Centre, Shenzhen Hetao College, the Shanghai Institute for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences, the Greater Bay Area Digital Economy Research Institute, and Shenzhen Middle School. Moving forward, all parties will strengthen collaboration to establish a comprehensive talent development system encompassing "attracting top-tier talent, empowering academic ecosystems, and cultivating future generations," thereby continuously supplying Shenzhen with strategically competitive talent reserves of international calibre.
The event was attended by principal officials from the Municipal Science and Technology Innovation Bureau, Municipal Education Bureau, Municipal Talent Work Bureau, and Hetao Development Office; Professor Xue Qikun, President of Southern University of Science and Technology; Professor David Lo, President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong; Professor Lo Chi-chuen, Vice-President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen; Professor Li Jun of the Shanghai Institute for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences; and Zhu Huawei, Principal of Shenzhen Middle School.
