Academician Shing-Tung Yau leads the way as the Hetao Institute of Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences (Shenzhen) embarks on a new journey integrating mathematics and technology.
The Institute adopts a research paradigm comprising 25% pure mathematics, 50% applied mathematics, and 25% interdisciplinary research and technology transfer. Its inaugural cohort of 17 researchers includes internationally renowned mathematicians such as Shing-Tung Yau and Chengdong Yau. By integrating mathematical theory with practical applications, they will provide technical support—including algorithm optimisation—for fields such as artificial intelligence and low-altitude economy, thereby serving Shenzhen's development as a hub for industrial science and technology innovation. The institute has also signed cooperation agreements with institutions including The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. Leveraging the geographical advantages of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Cooperation Zone in Hetao, they will jointly pursue cutting-edge research, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and accelerate the transformation of research outcomes into practical applications.
